I’m optimistic. There is a ripple in our consciousness, an awareness that things need to change. We have reached a diabolical place in our collective health. We’re too sick, too tired, too fat, too depressed. We are ‘too’ many, many things, most of all, we are too removed from nature’s gift, our food.
Real food. That’s where we need to begin. That’s where health starts. And you know what? It’s such an easy place to return to. We have been there before. Not you and I, but our grandparents, our ancestors, our indigenous people. It wasn’t that long ago that this truth was known; food is life and medicine to our bodies.
Over the last 2 generations we have come to believe that we are just too busy to eat real food. We have bought the quick, lite, instant, pre-made, pre-packaged propaganda on the lie that it’s just as good as the real thing. It’s not.
The sad reality is, people just don’t know any other way to eat today. We don’t know where our food comes from and more importantly we don’t know what’s in our food. It’s a big, scary processed world out there and it isn’t doing us any favours.
We need to temper our taste buds, curb our refined addictions and step off the synthetic food train. I guarantee your body will appreciate the shift. You will taste and feel the difference.
My gut says it’s not too late to change.
Let’s dive in and turn that ripple into a wave. I don’t mean join a gym or eat a power bar or handful of goji berries. I propose we re-learn forgotten and dying culinary traditions and rediscover simplicity. It’s not as time consuming as we are lead to believe. Let’s honor the innate wisdom of food, as it was, has been for hundreds of years, should and will be into the future.
That’s essentially what A gut feeling is all about. An uncomplicated, fun, space to share about good food. Maybe you’ll learn something, enjoy a recipe or two or even better, improve your gut health. If it simply opens your mind to new ingredients and brings wholesome food play to your kitchen, then fantastic! I love it.
This blog is a place for me to archive my food findings. My own health shift has emboldened me to create this as a resource. I hope I can contribute to, enliven and motivate others to try out some simple, health promoting changes.
