Give the spots a chance!
Organic bananas taste so much better. Sure, they mightn’t look as pretty but you can sure taste the difference!
Flawless, yellow, supermarket bananas have warped our expectation and judgment. Bananas are actually meant to have black spots. It’s what going on under the skin that counts. The spots are a naturally occurring indicator of ripeness and will always be sweeter. Most importantly, bananas with spots are easier to digest.
With their freckle-free commercial cousins, there is no way of knowing what’s going on. Is it ripe yet? Still green and tart? Or completely bruised under that perfect skin?
If you have a sensitive tum, steer clear of even the slightest tinge of green on the skin or at the tip of your ‘nanas. Wait for the beauty spots to appear before eating.
My local organic grocers had a spotty banana bonanza recently so I took this as a perfect opportunity to buy up, freeze some for Ron and post a recipe for one of my family’s simple favorites; the beloved banana pecan cake.
